Once Upon A Fic Letter
Feb. 12th, 2019 04:14 pm Dear author, first of all thank you so much for doing this for me. I simply can't wait, thank you for being so kind to participate in this wonderful exchange, I am sure your piece will be incredible. Here are some stuff and things I want.
I prefer:
1.Cendrillon ou La petite Pantoufle de Verre | Cinderella - Charles Perrault
Characters: Fairy Godmother, Cinderella, Prince, Stepmother, Stepsisters
So, Cinderella is one of my favourite tales ( I know, I am very basic) and one of my favourite parts of it is Fairy Godmother. Therefore I want story on her, where she came from, how she became involved with Cinderella (did her parents somehow earn her friendship? Did she simply meet kind Cinderella and get attached) and what happened to her afterwards (did she continue helping people, is she still active today). Some version of Perrault's story imply she lives with family, I would like to see that expanded upon maybe.
I prefer:
- Worldbuilding
- Nods to history of tales
- Seeing culture and customs
- Lovable kind characters
- Introspection
- Darkness
- Bittersweet things
- Vivid descriptions
- Conflicting emotions
- Character analysis
- Blue and orange morality, and conflict of it with human one
- Plot that doesn't boil to fight against big bad
- Magic
- Fae
- Uncanny and eldritch portrayal of fae gods spirits etc..
- Ridicule of fairy tales and their tropes or parody, bit of joking is ok but mocking I don't like
- Good character being made in villain and otherwise
- Tragic bleak endings for no reason, especially if original ends happily (bittersweet is fine)
- Exclusion of magic
- Modern day AUs set in New York and Las Vegas and essentially any tale that is Americanized too much (most modern aus don't do it for me, but these ones feel kinda boring to me because there are so many of them, sorry if I come across as rude)
- Low danger AUs, like coffe shop, flower shop etc.. Just boring for me, alongside anything that amkes stuff less epic
- Anything that inverts or mocks morals of fairy tale, especially stuff how kindness and honesty are stupid
- Action-packed stories with fight against major villain, especially if it makes character development looser
- Death of magical creatures
- Disrespect and hatred directed towards gods, showing gods as shallow jerks or outright evil ( especially common in stories about Olympians I noticed)
- Bigotry (sexism racism homophobia digs at poor and marginalised religions) tho I doubt that will be problem with this exchange
- Victim-blaming, abuse apologia etc...
- Rape
- Gore for sake of gore, I like violence, stuff like draining victims of blood or chopping up enemies in pieces, but as long as it serves purpose and isn't there just to gross out
- Too big focus on romance

I would like for you to include a faery lore in it. You can make godmother a specific sort of creature (brownie, banshee etc) or just general alien inhuman creature with questionable morals. I would like to see your interpretation of where fairies come from and how it affects their relationship with humans (are they fallen angels? Nature spirits? Forgotten gods?Corporeal beings from other dimension?), as well as for godmother to be Old, almost as if not older then humanity, and how it affects her relationship with them.
Godmother's thoughts on stepfamily and prince and relationship with them, alongside explanation why she didn't help Cinderella earlier.
2.Sneedronningen | The Snow Queen - Hans Christian Andersen
Characters: Snow Queen, Kai, Gerda, Robber Girl
2.Sneedronningen | The Snow Queen - Hans Christian Andersen
Characters: Snow Queen, Kai, Gerda, Robber Girl
I have two ideas for this, so whichever you prefer, both centering on Kai and his relationship with Snow Queen.
First is exploration of how Kai feels after he is rescued, him adapting to human life again, and what he thinks of it all, as well as meeting Gerda's various new friends. Feel free to include however many you want, but I would really really like if you included Gerda/Robber Girl ship.
Second is AU in which for whatever reason Gerda doesn't rescue Kai (please don't let it be death or betrayal) and he grows up in Snow Queen's palace. So exploration of that, as well as possible meeting of Gerda and Kai later on. Feel free to make it as bittersweet or dark as you want, but no hatred between two of them or bleak end.
For either of these ideas, I would like you to show how Kai was changed by his time with Snow Queen, both mentally and metaphysically (as in becoming something other then human). I would like to see your ideas on Snow Queen her nature and past (is she a fairy, goddesss, elemental personification), as well as for her not to be evil, just alien. Would really like to see her harbor some strange but positive and caring feelings for Kai, and explanation for why she kidnapped him.
3. Hans the Mermaid's Son (The Pink Fairy Book - Andrew Lang)
Characters: Mermaid, Hans
3. Hans the Mermaid's Son (The Pink Fairy Book - Andrew Lang)
Characters: Mermaid, Hans
So this is extremely interesting story, but I am interested in what happens before and after it.
I would like to see what Hans's life was like under the sea, and how he feels about life on land, as well as what other powers he might have. I would like to see character of mermaid, what she thinks about her son's adventures, whole fiasco with Devil, and about humans in general. I would like you to include some mermaid and faery folklore, because I am really fond of worldbuilding.
4.Medea - Euripides
Characters: Medea, Jason
Thank you so much, best of luck and may you get amazing gift!
4.Medea - Euripides
Characters: Medea, Jason
This is one of my favourite plays and myths of all time. I would like to see it written with influence of Seneca the Younger's Medea (specifically how much more arrogant and lacking in guilt for murder of children she is), as well as whole thing with murdering her brother and orchestrating murder of Pelias. I'd like anything from this but lets have a lot of character study. And dark humor!
I would like to see Medea who is not pure evil and can be sympathetic, but is also very sadistic and major egomaniac. Please show scene where she murdered her children, and her thought process on it. I would like to see Medea who is sad about her deed but doesn't regret it, as well as her deed being mostly motivated by need to avenge her honour, like with male heroes (and exploration of what honour is worth and what consequences it brings when deeds of Medea and Achilles and such are thought as honorable and proper), and possibly by her demigod nature. I would also like to see her relationship to Helios and other gods.
And Jason. I want to see Jason who, while he did something despicable, still retains some virtuous qualities, alongside with exploration of stress and consequences living with Medea and her murder-happy ways. It can't have been easy. Also, please don't make it as if Medea was ever submissive or manipulated in this relationship. I would like to see exploration of his connection with Hera too.
Above all I want them to still be in love, despite all betrayals and blood. A choking, toxic, destructive, burning love that goes on until end of their lives. I want to see Medea's reaction to Jason's death. Maybe even have some plotline where somebody tries to kill Jason but she secretly saves him because only SHE can end him?
Maybe modern AU where Medea is some sort of bloody, violent criminal and Jason is her boyfriend who helps her hide bodies?
Thank you so much, best of luck and may you get amazing gift!
